John Lesson 10 Day 5 Day 6

John Lesson 10 Day 5 Day 6 ~ John 6:60-71

11- The Spirit can make life.

Sheer muscle and willpower don’t make anything happen. John 6:63 MSG

But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters]. 1 Corinthians 2:14 AMP

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NLT)

Our lives in this physical realm are “nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing.”   James 4:14 (MSG)

This may sound strange, but this is what I think. Whether it’s true or not, it helps me grasp the concept of oneness with Christ.

Did you know 99.9999999999996% of our body is empty spaceIt’s no wonder we can feel an emptiness without Him. It’s that empty feeling that drives people to try crazy substitutes.
I believe we partake of Him with our entire being through desire. Our desire for an intimate relationship with Him draws Him to overshadow and fill us.
As believers, filled with His Spirit come together we become the church—the Body of Christ. The Church should fill the world’s emptiness.
The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence. Ephesians 1:22-23 MSG

If we individually present our bodies—our very lives as a living sacrifice and come together with others who choose to do the same, just imagine the possibilities. Would we spill out into the streets and see thousands saved in one day? (See Acts 2)

12-  “Does this offend you?”

Under the Old Covenant, the Jews weren’t allowed to eat meat that still had blood in it.

Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life (soul), and you shall not eat the life with the meat. Deuteronomy 12:23 AMP

Judaism does not see your body as meat, because we human beings are considered to be sufficiently unlike animals not to be in that category. Rabbi Zvi Solomons

Prohibitions against touching dead bodies

Anyone who touches a dead body is ritually unclean for seven days. He must purify himself with the Water-of-Cleansing on the third day; on the seventh day he will be clean. MSG (See Numbers 19:11-13)

Many get by teachings on grace.

I’m just so thankful for it. I’m thankful to know Jesus isn’t scowling and shaking His head at me. He loves me. I knew He loved the world enough to send His only Son to die for me. But I feel like I learned He was disappointed in MY behavior ALL THE TIME.

13-  Peter’s Confession of Faith John 6:68-69

Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.John 6:68-69

Psalm 73:20-28

Phrases similar to Peter’s confession (in bold)

Whom have I in heaven but you?
I desire you more than anything on earth.
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
    but God remains the strength of my heart;
    he is mine forever…

But as for me, how good it is to be near God!
I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter,
and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do. NLT

Things I learned:

Additional reasons many of the Jews were offended by what Jesus said.

How much empty space is in my body. I had no idea it was that much. More of You, Jesus!

My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. (I) pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower (me) with inner strength through His Spirit. Then You, Christ, will make Your home in (my) heart as (I) trust in You. (My) roots will grow down into Your love and keep (me) strong. And may (I) have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love is. May (I) experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then (I) will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from (You), God. Amen (adapted from Ephesians 3:14-19 MSG & NLT)
