John Lesson 11 Day 5 Day 6

John Lesson 11 Day 5 Day 6 ~ John 7:40-53

11-  The people disagree about Jesus

Some of the people said—

  • Surely this man is the Prophet.
(The one referenced in Deuteronomy 18:15. They were correct)
  • He is the Messiah.
    (They were correct.)
  • The Messiah doesn’t come from Galilee, does he? Don’t the Scriptures tell us that the Messiah comes from David’s line and from Bethlehem, David’s village? (NLT)
(Jesus did come from David’s line and was born in Bethlehem.)

Deuteronomy 18:15

The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me [Moses] from among you, from your countrymen (brothers, brethren). You shall listen to him. (AMP)

Micah 5:1-2

But for now, prepare for the worst, victim daughter!
The siege is set against us.
They humiliate Israel’s king,
slapping him around like a rag doll.

But you, Bethlehem, David’s country,
    the runt of the litter—
From you will come the leader
    who will shepherd-rule Israel.
He’ll be no upstart, no pretender.
His family tree is ancient and distinguished.

12-  a. Nicodemus Defends Jesus

This was the same man who came to meet with Jesus secretly. He was both a ruler and a Pharisee. Nicodemus appealed to the angry Pharisees by asking, “Does our Law decide a man’s guilt without first listening to him and finding out what he is doing?” (MSG)

The other Pharisees did not treat Jesus fairly. They were angry and offended by him. They didn’t even follow the “book” they were trying to throw at Him.

b.  These days it is necessary to defend Jesus Christ as the only way. When I was growing up, no one I knew questioned that. Although, the cover of Time Magazine that asked, “Is God dead?” caused quite a stir.

13-  John 7

The gap in John’s gospel between Jesus’ visits to Jerusalem

The possible reasons Jesus delayed

I feel like I’m actually there following Jesus around. Like I’m writing a biased editorial.

Father, show me what you want me to grasp during this study. Show me the truths I’m missing. Lead me into all truth. I want to know you more—and be transformed into your likeness. Amen.
