John Lesson 12 Day 3

John Lesson 12 Day 3 ~ John 8:12-30

6-  a.  John 8:12-20 (MSG) Jesus said,

I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.

But you can depend on it (my word) being true. I know where I’ve come from and where I go next.

My judgment is true and My decision is right; for I am not alone [in making it], but I and the Father who sent Me [make the same judgment]. (AMP)

If you knew me, you would at the same time know the Father.”

What this means to me:

Jesus, the Word, lights my path throughout my life. When I keep my eyes focused on him, I’m not left in the dark.

b.  Jesus testimony about himself is true.

Jesus wasn’t the only one who bore witness of who He really was. The Father bore witness through the miracles he performed (John 8:18) and John the Baptist bore witness, too (John 5:32-33).  Andrew Wommack

7- a.  Contrast between Jesus and his listeners

Where I am going, you cannot come.

Jesus is going back to His place in the heavenly realm. They will stay in the world.

I am from above— You are of this world.

Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth from the heavenly realm where he was in full fellowship with the Father. They, on the other hand, are the complete opposite. “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.  John 8:44 (ESV)

We see here how difficult it is to excite wicked men to the contemplation of heavenly things. They interpret all things in a low and corrupt sense, and suppose all others to be governed as they are themselves. Barnes

b.  Jesus is

The Son of Man

He is the Messiah, God’s only Son.

His eyes are always on the Father.

He does what he sees the Father doing, the things that please the Father.

Jesus is our access to God the Father because Jesus is our mediator, our intercessor, and our high priest.

8-  Jesus said he would be lifted up–John 8:28

Jesus said this because he was going to be crucified.

John 12:31-33

Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.

His means of death also conveys additional symbolism.

John 3:13-15

In the same way that Moses lifted the serpent in the desert so people could have something to see and then believe, it is necessary for the Son of Man to be lifted up—and everyone who looks up to him, trusting and expectant, will gain a real life, eternal life. Verse 14-15 (MSG)

1 Corinthians 6:14

And God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead. (NLT)
