John Lesson 9 Day 2

John Lesson 9 Day 2 ~ John 6:22-27

3- The people asked Jesus, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

Jesus answered, “You’ve come looking for me not because you saw God in my actions but because I fed you, filled your stomachs—and for free.

how did Jesus answer their question and what phrase did He use to underscore

4-  The motives behind our actions

They were seeking Jesus, but for the wrong reasons…

Those people knew Jesus didn’t cross the sea with His disciples. How then did He get to the other side? The answer was that He walked on the water. He could have told them that, but He chose not to. These people were already willing to make Him their king (John 6:15), not for the right reasons of loving and obeying Him, but because they saw Jesus as the One who could provide all their needs. Andrew Wommack

5-  a.  Jesus said,

“Don’t work (spend your energy) for food that perishes”

The food for the supply of your natural wants. It perishes. The strength you derive from it is soon exhausted, and your wasted powers need to be reinvigorated.  Barnes

Material things like clothing, home furnishings, vehicles, collectibles, money, real estate, political power, attention, popularity, education, etc.

“Work (spend your energy) for food that endures [leads] to eternal life (that sticks with you, food that nourishes your lasting life)”

The supply of your spiritual wants; that which supports, and nourishes, and strengthens the soul; the doctrines of the gospel, that are to a weak and guilty soul what needful food is to the weary and decaying body.  Barnes

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31 NLT

So we won’t miss the sound “of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool [afternoon breeze] of the day.” (Genesis 3:8)

Or know God like Enoch—”Enoch walked steadily with God. And then one day he was simply gone: God took him. Genesis 5:24 MSG

Or John in Revelation 1:10 “It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast.”

“Mysteries, things which are unknown and unknowable by man , are revealed only by the Spirit.” (Ephesians. 3:3)

Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.  Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:19-20 NLT

Jesus is talking about our priorities—avoiding temporary distractions and idols.

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.  Matthew 6:33  AMP

b.  God gave Jesus the seal of His approval.

To seal is to confirm or approve as ours. This is done when we set our seal to a compact, or deed, or testament, by which we ratify it as our act. So God the Father, by the miracles which had been wrought by Jesus, had shown that he had sent him, that he approved his doctrines, and ratified his works. The miracles were to his doctrine what a seal is to a written instrument. Barnes

“And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” Matthew 3:17 NLT

“Whoever receives His testimony has set his seal [of approval] to this: God is true [and he knows that God cannot lie].”  John 3:33 AMP
