9. a. When the tabernacle was fully assembled, “…the cloud [the Shekinah, God’s visible presence] covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle!” AMP
b. God kept the promise He made when He asked Moses to “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them.” Exodus 25:8 NLT
The same thing happened when Solomon’s temple was dedicated. (1 Kings 8:11 and 2 Chronicles 5:14)
c. The New Testament equivalent of this event is the account of the Holy Spirit’s promised arrival while the disciples and other believers waited in the upper room. Acts 2:1-12
When the Feast of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force—no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building. Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks, and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them. MSG
I love that!
d. Warning, my answer may be controversial to some BSF-ers. Although receiving the Holy Spirit after Pentecost may not include the wind and flames, throughout the New Testament church, receiving the Holy Spirit is a separate experience. It is also accompanied by the manifestation of speaking in another language.
I believe it is the same today. I find no evidence to the contrary.
At the new birth we are born again by the Spirit. But that isn’t the same as receiving the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 19:1-6, Paul asks some disciples in Ephesus, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” After Paul laid hands on them, “the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak in other languages and to prophesy.”
I don’t understand why it is a controversial topic.
10. a. Immediate impact—Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the Glory of God filled it. Exodus 40:35
One writer says the glory may have been a blinding light.
Perhaps it was a thick darkness. Since the cloud came the same way in Solomon’s temple, that makes sense. Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; 1 Kings 8:12 NIV
b. I can apply this to my life and service to God. I have received the Holy Spirit, and I want to stay filled with the overflowing manifestation of the presence of God.
I can and will go and make disciples. I can and will teach them everything Jesus said.
I received power to be Christ’s witness; to fulfill the Great Commission in my city, in my state, in my country, and anywhere else God sends me.
Since I was ten, my dream has been a one-way ticket to India. Apparently, it was my idea, and not the Lord’s. I have sent prayers and support to others. Maybe someday.
Amazingly, I can now reach the ends of the earth via the internet.
