Revelation Lesson 12 Day 4 Fifth Seal

Study of Revelation 6:9-11

9.  a.  The Lamb broke the Fifth Seal

Under the altar, John immediately saw the souls of everyone martyred for the word of God and for being faithful in their testimony.

They cried out in a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?”

b. Areas I would like to see God’s justice

  • Those who seek to kill Christians and Jews
  • Human traffickers
  • Child molesters
  • Abortionists
  • Pimps
  • Drug lords
  • Pornographers
  • Leaders with evil, abusive, immoral, or subversive agendas

10.  a.  The martyrs under the altar

The martyrs were told to wait because God is patient and merciful. He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. He wants everyone to repent.

Romans 2:5

But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

b.  The white robes might represent–

  • The clothing of salvation
  • A robe of righteousness
  • A bride or bridegroom dressed for a wedding

I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God!
For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation
and draped me in a robe of righteousness.
I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding
or a bride with her jewels.  Isaiah 61:10 NLT

a.  Scriptures about Christians’ suffering and persecution

Romans 5:3-5

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. NLT

1 Peter 3:13-17

Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong! NLT

1 Peter 4:12-16

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you will be blessed, for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you. If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs. But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!

1 Peter 5:10

In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

b.  Vengeance is God’s department.

Jesus forgave those who crucified Him saying, “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44 ESV

I’m thankful God is patient. Perhaps another world-changer the caliber of the Apostle Paul will see the light.

c.  Comforting someone who is suffering

Weep with those who weep. Romans 12:15
