New Heaven ~ New Earth
10. New Heaven ~ New Earth ~ New Covenant
With Jesus as the permanent and eternal high priest, mankind has a new and better covenant.
We are God’s own children now. Now.
And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. Rom 8:17a NLT
I’m encouraged to know that my relationship with God isn’t on hold until some sweet by-and-by. At least, it doesn’t have to be.
Jesus said, But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life. John 4:14 AMP
Lord, let it bubble and flow and satisfy my thirst for You.
God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. NLT
God finished His work of creating a world for His greatest creation to live in and to have dominion over.
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. ESV
Jesus completed His work. He provided the once-and-for-all sacrifice for our salvation “sozo” – to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literal or figurative) :- heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole. Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. ESV
Jesus identified Himself as the Alpha and the Omega four times in the Book of Revelation:
Revelation 1:8; Revelation 1:11; Revelation 21:6; and Revelation 22:13
Matthew and John recorded Jesus’ offer to quench spiritual thirst three times.
—Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6 ESV
—But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. John 4:14 NLT
—On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. John 7:37 NIV
Jesus said, “It is finished” just before He died on the cross.
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30 NIV
12. A. God’s judgment came after His free gift of living water.
He made a way of escape available to everyone. 1 Corinthians 10:13
B. Jesus extends His invitation to all.
Unbelievers should not miss even one more day without accepting the gift of God’s love, mercy, forgiveness, abiding presence, relationship and abundant life in Christ. He provided for those who believe.
13. My final thoughts on Lesson 26
—Scholars have a hard time translating Revelation from Greek to English.
—Scholars translate consciously or subconsciously based on their filter.
I think the Book of Revelation is about the transition from old covenant to new covenant. I don’t yet know how every element of every vision fits into my point of view. Maybe it doesn’t, but considering how the Pharisees completely misinterpreted the prophecies about the Messiah, I don’t want to do the same thing.
I don’t know how a final judgment fits into all that.
I do know, I’m not lining up with the BSF “official” stance.
My daily prayer is Jesus’ promise in John 16:13 —
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
Pray I bite my tongue in group so I don’t get thrown out of BSF. ;-)
