Revelation Lesson 27 Day 4 Glory

The Glory of the New Jerusalem

Study of Revelation 21:22-27

The Glory of the New Jerusalem

9. The city had no need of—

A temple because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

The sun or the moon to supply light because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. The shekinah glory of God will fill the entire city.

10. A. References to other temples

1 Kings 8:1-21

Only the priests and specific vessels were allowed in the Holy Place.

When the priests left the Holy Place, a cloud filled The Temple of God.

The priests couldn’t carry out their priestly duties because of the cloud—the glory of God filled The Temple of God!

John 2:19-22

Jesus called His body a temple. He said , “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” And He did.

1 Corinthians 6:19

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, (NLT)

B. The light of God

Exodus 13:21

The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. (NLT)

Psalm 119:105

The Psalmist wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” ESV

John 8:12

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

11. A. God’s eternal kingdom

The nations [the redeemed people from the earth] will walk by its light,

The kings of the earth will bring into it their glory.

By day (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed [in fear of evil].

They will bring the glory (splendor, majesty)

The honor of the nations into it;

Nothing that defiles or profanes or is unwashed will ever enter it, nor anyone who practices abominations [detestable, morally repugnant things] and lying,

Only those [will be admitted] whose names have been written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

John 4:23 NLT

But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.” (Emphasis added)

Jesus said that almost 2000 years ago.

B. God’s presence among His people

The main thing I noticed is the access to God we already have. So much is already fulfilled.

Believers carry the presence of God.

We are in Christ.

Jesus is the light of the world.

We are called to let His light shine through us.

His Word lights our path.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

In the New Jerusalem, we dwell in Him, “for In him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28)

Jesus said, “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” John 17:21 ESV

I can’t shake the sense that the New Jerusalem is spiritual. The destruction of the old temple in Jerusalem came soon after the writing of Revelation. The New Jerusalem, at least the first New Jerusalem, is the believer.

I believe we can be much closer to God if we decide to be. Moses and Enoch set good examples.

Certainly, when we are no longer in this flesh suit, we will enjoy, “Uninterrupted, immediate, direct, communion with Him and the Lamb.” Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
