The River of Life
12. John saw a river of the water of life,
—clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Christ), in the middle of its street.
Other scriptures about the river of life and what it represents
Baptism in the Holy Spirit
John 7:38-39 AMP
He who believes in Me…, as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’” But He was speaking of the [Holy] Spirit, whom those who believed in Him [as Savior] were to receive afterward. The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Proverbs 18:4 AMP
The words of a man’s mouth are like deep waters [copious and difficult to fathom]; The fountain of [mature, godly] wisdom is like a bubbling stream [sparkling, fresh, pure, and life-giving].
Life and Healing
Then he said to me, “This river flows east through the desert into the valley of the Dead Sea. The waters of this stream will make the salty waters of the Dead Sea fresh and pure. There will be swarms of living things wherever the water of this river flows. Fish will abound in the Dead Sea, for its waters will become fresh. Life will flourish wherever this water flows. Fishermen will stand along the shores of the Dead Sea. All the way from En-Gedi to En-Eglaim, the shores will be covered with nets drying in the sun. Fish of every kind will fill the Dead Sea, just as they fill the Mediterranean.
A. Adam, Eve and everyone else lost access to the tree of life.
Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden because they ate of the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil.
The Lord God said, “What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!”
In God’s mercy, He could not allow people to live forever in a world full of sin.
B. God’s people
God’s people regain access to the river of life—salvation, eternal life, healing, wisdom, and the Holy Spirit. We also regained purity by receiving the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Psalm 51:7 NLT
14. Christianity isn’t a religion.
It’s a personal relationship with an Almighty God/Creator through Jesus Christ. That relationship is ours on earth as it is in heaven.
DAY 6 Review of Revelation 21:9-22:5
15. Every new glimpse of God yields a new layer of understanding.
This is my prayer for my dear readers and for myself. I personalized it so we can pray it over ourselves and each other.
Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Growth
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower us with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in our hearts as we trust in him. Our roots will grow down into God’s love and keep us strong. And may we have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May we experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then we will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. (Emphasis added)
