State of the World
Revelation Lesson 28 Day 3
5. The world today
The media spreads fear and worry. They also take sides. Most reports are commentary based on the network’s bias. (That’s my commentary.)
True, there is bad news. Christians are mocked and worse.
Terrorism spreads fear. Sin is legalized and glorified. Political parties are at each other’s throats. Racial tension breaks out into violence.
But there is good news. Really good news.
Prayer rallies held in Los Angeles and Washington DC
Tens of thousands of Christians filled the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles over the weekend (April 7, 2016) to pray for a spiritual revival to sweep across the nation.
These events don’t usually make the national news. I hope this one did.
I also shared the testimony of a young man who ran a very successful New Age website. I say “ran” because he is now a born-again believer. He met Jesus while alone at his house. Now he is setting up a website to reach the New Age community with the truth.
I also have a friend who was a paramedic for thirty-five years. Until several years ago, he was an atheist. He accepted Jesus one weekend while he was alone. Soon after he accepted Jesus, he began praying for his patients while transporting them to the hospital. Talk about an ideal evangelistic opportunity!
Based on part two of this question, my thoughts aren’t heading in the direction the writers intended.
I prefer to watch what my heavenly Father is doing. That’s what Jesus did. (John 5:19-20) His light shines brighter in the darkness. Ours will, too, if we have our eyes on him.
Back to the gloomy perspective.
The terrible lie—Genesis 3
“Satan, in an effort to stop God’s plan, disguised himself as a snake and waited in the garden.
Now, God had given Adam and Eve only one rule. ‘Don’t eat the fruit on that tree,’ God told them.
‘Because if you do, you’ll think you know everything. You’ll stop trusting me. And then death and sadness and tears will come.” The Jesus Storybook Bible (It’s written for children, but I love it.)
So people decided they didn’t really need God. They also felt afraid of Him and didn’t understand that He really loves them and wants to have a relationship with them.
So everyone did as they saw fit when there was no king. Judges 17:6
People do that even when there is a king, too.
So that’s how the world got the way it is.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
All creation was subjected to the curse. It groans with longing.
“We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.”
6. A. I long for the world to be as God intended.
While I look forward to eternity, it moves me to seek a deeper relationship with Jesus while I’m here. His heart longs for that, too.
I also have a destiny to fulfill—the call of God on my life right here, right now.
B. Become like Jesus.
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Jesus had to settle an argument among the twelve. The kingdom of heaven is an upside down kingdom. The first are last and the last are first. (Matt 20:16)
Matt 28:18-20 NLT — Serve others.
But among you, it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Romans 12:1-2 NLT — Be a living sacrifice; let God transform the way we think.
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Ephesians 2:10 NLT — We have a destiny.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Philippians 1:21 — Live for Christ.
For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.
