Romans Lesson 15 Day 2
My answers to BSF study questions
God’s help is an enduring promise; He has the ability to work all things for good and to see us through to glorification. ~Guzik
3. And…all things work together for good…
Greek word pas translated as all things is also translated as —
- every form
- every kind
- every way
- every respect
Greek word agathos translated as good is also translated as —
Per Strong’s Concordance: Good, in a physical and moral sense, and which produces benefits. The word is used of persons, things, acts, conditions, and so on. A synonym of agathos is kalos, good in an aesthetic sense, suggesting attractiveness, excellence. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6″
The Greek word sunergeo translated working together in Romans 8:28 means to cooperate, help, collaborate, co-labor. (Strongs)
4. a. Romans 8:28
We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan. (Voice)
So (which refers back to the previous verse) we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose. (TPT)
We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. (AMPC)
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. (Romans 8:26-28 MSG)
…if we are interceding in the power of the Holy Spirit, then we can take whatever the devil throws at us and make it work together for our good. That is a huge difference. If people interpret this verse to say that whatever comes our way is from God, then it makes them yield to their problems and removes them from the deliverance available through Christ (James 4:7). (Andrew Wommack, emphasis added)
b. When faced with trying circumstances
The preceding verses talk about the fallen nature of man, the curse that came as a result of sin, and persecution.
- Seek God for a specific word about the situation. What are its source and purpose?
- Examine my heart to see if I’ve been disobedient or if my behavior is somehow the cause.
- Repent if necessary.
- Is it a weed? Matt 13:24-28
Rebuke and resist the devil if he’s to blame. (1 Peter 5:8-9)
- Pray according to His word, asking the Holy Spirit for guidance and to intercede for those things that are beyond my revelation and comprehension.
- Don’t give up or lose hope. 2 Chronicles 15:7-8
- Trust that all things work together for good.
5. God is faithful
God is trustworthy. He keeps his promises.
He sees the big picture and every detail, plus he has a plan.
The Holy Spirit, our comforter, is always with us, making intercession for us and through us.
Lord, thank You for the Holy Spirit and for Jesus who is with me and interceding for me.
