Romans Lesson 3 Day 3

6. Because of their hardness and unrepentant heart (HCSB) —
Those who refuse the great salvation offered freely through faith in Jesus will receive indignation and wrath.
Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. Matthew 6:20 MSG
As I may have mentioned in a previous lesson, I inherited a bunch of collectibles from my grandparents. Some of it held up okay, but much of it hasn’t. I’ve decided it’s time to stop being their curator. After asking around the family, no one on earth even wants most of the stuff.
Thankfully, my grandmother loved people, especially her family and her church. We were and still are her true treasure. During her time on earth she was generous and hospitable.
So, where is my heart? Earthly things used to have my heart way more than they do now. The more I seek and focus on the face of Jesus, the less I care of about material things. He shows me what is on His heart, and my greatest desire is to make it so.
7. a. Those who “labored diligently and patiently to do what is right—seeking glory, honor, and immortality”
- God will grant him endless joy in life eternal. (Voice) emphasis added
- And they will receive glory, honor and peace. From Romans 2:10 (Voice) emphasis added
The following verse also comes to mind:
But for you, the ones who tremble at the sound of My name, a warm sun of righteousness will come forth with healing in its rays, and you will go out, springing from the stalls like calves in open pasture. Malachi 4:2 Voice
Those who reject the truth
They will find fury and indignation as the fruit of living in the wrong. Suffering and pain await everyone whose life is marked by evil living (first for the Jew, and next for the non-Jew). Romans 2:8-10 Voice (emphasis added)
b. The fruit of my attitude toward God
After many years as a believer, I still struggle with selfishness, frustration with others, worry and fear. However, the more I focus on God, the less I’m focused on myself and the more I desire to be like Him and do His will. He began the good work in me, and He promised “He will not stop in mid-design but will keep perfecting” me. (Philippians 1:6 Voice)
8. God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ.
God doesn’t judge us by our ancestry.
Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. 1 Corinthians 4:5 NIV
shall judge the secrets of men—here specially referring to the unfathomed depths of hypocrisy in the self-righteous whom the apostle had to deal with. Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
See, I am coming soon, and I will bring My reward with Me. I will pay back every person according to the deeds he has done. Revelation 22:12 Voice
Later, Paul wrote this to Timothy—
I have fought the good fight, I have stayed on course and finished the race, and through it all, I have kept believing. I look forward to what’s in store for me: a crown of righteousness that the Lord—the always right and just judge—will give me that day (but it is not only for me, but for all those who love and long for His appearing). 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Voice
In chapter 1, Paul establishes the fact that both Jews and Gentiles knowingly sin, but God made a way. Those who choose the way will be pronounced righteous.
